Book Description
Is your kid constantly losing things? Do water bottles, lunch boxes, jackets, and sweaters routinely go missing? If so, this is the book for you! Through charming rhyme, stunning illustrations, and a catchy song, children learn an essential lesson in responsibility. Leena Lulu, the Lost and Found Fairy, helps kids keep track of their stuff so you can stop losing your mind.
What happens to those things you leave behind?
Do you claim them or ditch them for
someone else to find?
What’s wrong with replacing what was
lost with something new?
Well, the answers to these questions might
just surprise you.
The endless cycle of buying, losing, and replacing items is not sustainable. It perpetuates a mindset of disposability and does not help kids learn how to keep track of their things. To address this issue, readers are introduced to Leena Lulu, a fairy whose unique job is to magically transport forgotten items to school lost and found bins. She delights in watching kids return to claim their belongings. However, Leena becomes disheartened when she notices that children have stopped coming for their possessions. As a result, parents and teachers are left to grapple with overflowing lost and found collections. Although they try to do the right thing and donate these items to charity, the amount of stuff far exceeds demand for secondhand things. Much of the excess is either disposed of, incinerated, or exported to other countries, where it adds to the ever-growing waste problem and harms economies, public health, and environments overseas.
Leena Lulu utilizes rhyme and a catchy song to inspire children to cherish their belongings, understand the consequences of losing things, and contribute to the preservation of our planet. With lyrical verses and whimsical illustrations, young readers will be captivated as they help with a concerned fairy's mission to raise awareness about the importance of taking better care of their things and reducing waste.
Behind the Story
Hi, I'm Leena Lulu. As a lost and found fairy, my job is to travel the world using my wand to zap those items that kids have left behind and magically transport them to school lost and found bins. Over the years, I've seen lost and found collections grow out of control! Kids no longer come to claim their things. This makes me so sad!
Schools often donate unclaimed items to charity, but those organizations can only sell about 10-30% of all the stuff they receive. What happens to the excess? Unfortunately, it ends up in landfills, incinerators, or exported overseas. Huge amounts of textile waste disguised as used clothing flood lower income countries on a daily basis causing severe health and environmental problems. Even though fairies are supposed to remain unseen, I had to come out of hiding to educate others about this issue.
My friend, Camille D'Ambrosio, and I teamed up to write a children's book and compose a catchy song. Our goal is to instill a sense of responsibility and encourage kids to keep track of their things. Through rhyme and beautiful illustrations, children are taught about the importance of reducing consumption and waste.
